Volleyball Game Preview: Marvin Ridge Mavericks vs. Porter Ridge Pirates

The Marvin Ridge Mavericks will venture away from home to square off against the Porter Ridge Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Marvin Ridge is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of North Carolina's top teams: Weddington, who was ranked fourth at the time (Marvin Ridge was ranked 18th). Marvin Ridge came up short against Weddington on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Mavericks were not able to get on the board.

While Marvin Ridge was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-23, 25-18.

Meanwhile, Porter Ridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 3-0 to Weddington.

The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-15, 25-21.

Porter Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Marvin Ridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-2.

Everything went Marvin Ridge's way against Porter Ridge in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Marvin Ridge made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marvin Ridge since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
