            Baseball Recap: Mt. Hope Huskies vs. Cumberland Clippers        
        
		
        
        
            Mt. Hope had lost six straight on the road, but  on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-15 to make it seven. They took  a  7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cumberland Clippers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Clippers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup  21-1  two weeks ago.
 Mt. Hope saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Jack Thompson, who  went 2-for-3 with one  run.
As for Cumberland, they have  been performing  incredibly well recently as they've  won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record  this season. The  wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.
On Cumberland's side,  Marcus Gomes tossed a big game,   pitching six innings while giving up just two earned runs off   six  hits. The dominant performance also gave  Gomes a new career-high in  strikeouts (four).
 On the hitting side,  the team  relied heavily on  Tyler Hurteau, who  went 2-for-3 with two  runs and one  double. Another player making a difference was  Gabriel Niman, who  went 2-for-3 with two  RBI and one  run.
 We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mt. Hope will  square off against  rival Portsmouth  at 4:30  p.m.  on Thursday. Meanwhile, Cumberland is set to  face off against  their familiar foe Lincoln  at 4:15  p.m.  on Friday.
