Baseball Preview: Zion-Benton Zee-Bees vs. Stevenson Patriots
Zion-Benton hasn't had much luck against Stevenson recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Zee-Bees are taking a road trip to challenge the Patriots at 4:45 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Zion-Benton barely beat Harvard the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Zee-Bees blew past the Hornets 11-1 on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Zee-Bees needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
The team relied heavily on Jack Marabella, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Michael Gonzalez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Zion-Benton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Harvard only posted a batting average of .222.
Meanwhile, Stevenson beat Deerfield 5-1 on Saturday.
Andrew Langerman looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Matteo Nolasco was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Stevenson's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 10-15 when he doesn't). Landon Troung also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Stevenson's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-15. As for Zion-Benton, their record is now 7-18.
