Basketball Recap: Franklin-Simpson Wildcats vs. Monroe County Falcons
Franklin-Simpson took care of business in their home opener on Tuesday (and then some). They blew past the Monroe County Falcons 60-35. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Wildcats also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2023.
Franklin-Simpson had a senior duo take command as LaReesha Cawthorn dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 rebounds and Vanessa Ray went 5 for 9 en route to 16 points plus eight rebounds and two steals. Cawthorn has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ma'Jayla Butler, who scored two points.
Monroe County's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Franklin-Simpson will venture away from home to square off against Hart County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Monroe County has already played their next game (against Franklin-Simpson), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
