Preview: Calvert Cavaliers vs. McDonough Rams
Calvert is 8-1 against McDonough since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Calvert Cavaliers will be playing at home against the McDonough Rams at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Calvert has four straight victories, McDonough has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Calvert faced Patuxent in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Calvert secured a 19-14 W over Patuxent. 19 seems to be a good number for Calvert as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Calvert can attribute much of their success to Domaine Wallace Jr., who rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown. Wallace Jr. was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards.
Meanwhile, McDonough had to suffer through a rough 39-12 loss at the hands of La Plata.
Calvert's win was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 7-2 Huntingtown and 5-4 Great Mills (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.3% over those games). As for McDonough, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Everything came up roses for Calvert against McDonough in their previous matchup back in September of 2022 as the squad secured a 41-0 win. Will Calvert repeat their success, or does McDonough have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
