Softball Recap: Springfield Wins Going Away Against Clay County

Springfield had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Clay County Panthers.

Joey Klein made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Kendall Crytzer was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Izzy Potter was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Clay County is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Looking ahead, Springfield will take on Germantown Friends at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Clay County, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Roane County at 1:00 p.m. on April 5.
