Basketball Recap: Wink Comes Up Short

Wink lost against Denver City back in December of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Wink Wildcats took a 52-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Denver City Mustangs. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Wink saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Layne Lusby posted 17 points along with five boards and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lusby has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Timothy Montoya, who earned eight points.

Even though they lost, Wink smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 18 consecutive contests.

Wink's loss dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Denver City, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-6.

Wink wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 60-48 victory against Jal on the 3rd. As for Denver City, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-38 win against Compass Academy on the 3rd.
