Colton is on a five-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Orofino is on a four-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. Colton will host Orofino at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Colton lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Asotin, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's matchup. Colton blew past Asotin 15-4 on Thursday.
Kiya Soza made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Soza was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Colton got a massive performance out of Clair Moehrle, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Mere Bell, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.
Colton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Asotin only managed eight hits.
Meanwhile, Orofino made easy work of Priest River last Saturday and carried off a 13-2 victory. Fans of the Maniacs have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Like Colton, Orofino also got a great game from a two-way player: Brynn Hanna. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest earned runs Hanna has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs.
In other batting news, Sady Olive was a standout: she scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Sierra Tondevold was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Orofino's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Colton, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Colton took their win against Orofino when the teams last played back in April of 2019 by a conclusive 15-5. Will Colton repeat their success, or does Orofino has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
