Baseball Game Preview: Oakfield-Alabama Hornets vs. Kendall Eagles

The Oakfield-Alabama Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the Kendall Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Oakfield-Alabama comes in on four and Kendall on ten.

Oakfield-Alabama had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Campbell-Savona on Saturday. The Hornets' pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Hornets have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

David Schnaufer made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Oakfield-Alabama is 4-1 when Schnaufer posts eight or more strikeouts, but 6-7 otherwise. Schnaufer was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Jackson Gilbert was excellent, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Cianfrini, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Kendall won against School of the Arts last Monday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Eagles were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Perry. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won ten games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kendall pushed their record up to 16-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Oakfield-Alabama, their record now sits at 10-8.

Oakfield-Alabama suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Kendall in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
