South lost to Salina Central on Friday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Cougars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Mustangs.

Aidan Speilman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Yaden Montanez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 11 contests.

South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

South's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Salina Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Coming up, South will head out to square off against Maize at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight. As for Salina Central, they will square off against Goddard on Tuesday.
