Asheboro lost against Northern Guilford back in November of 2015 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Blue Comets fell 31-27 to the Nighthawks. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Blue Comets, who until this game were averaging 14.67 points allowed.

When it comes to explaining why Asheboro lost, don't look at Dallas Brinton. Despite the final result, he rushed for 132 yards and one score, and also threw for 172 yards and a pair of TDs. The Blue Comets also got help from Jaydon Spruill, who showed off his sure hands for 88 receiving yards.

Amare Akers was his usual excellent self, rushing for 182 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry for Northern Guilford. Those 182 rushing yards gave Akers a new career-high.

Having lost for the first time this season, Asheboro fell to 5-1. As for Northern Guilford, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
