Basketball Recap: Ayle Taylor's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fort Wayne Bishop Luers over Fort Wayne Snider

Fort Wayne Bishop Luers has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 59-56 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fort Wayne Snider Panthers. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Fort Wayne Bishop Luers' loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ayle Taylor, who went 6-for-11 en route to 18 points. Those 18 points gave Taylor a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dereon Truesdale, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Fort Wayne Bishop Luers smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Leading Fort Wayne Snider to victory were Trell Hogue and Layne Patterson. Hogue posted 14 points, while Patterson went 6-for-9 on his way to 14 points. Thanks to that strong game, Patterson now owns an excellent 47.1% field goal percentage. Jordan Davis was another key player, putting up ten points.

Fort Wayne Bishop Luers' defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Fort Wayne Snider, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fort Wayne Bishop Luers will head out to square off against Huntington North at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fort Wayne Snider, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers face off against the Lions at 7:30 p.m. on February 21st.
