Baseball Game Preview: Chaparral Roadrunners vs. Douglass Bulldogs

The Chaparral Roadrunners will head out on the road to face off against the Douglass Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Chaparral is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Douglass will be up against a hot Chaparral team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Roadrunners blew past Belle Plaine 14-4 on Thursday. Considering the Roadrunners have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Daxton Hostetler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Hostetler was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Chaparral got a massive performance out of Carter Hostetler, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. The Roadrunners are 6-1 when Hostetler posts two or more runs, but 4-7-1 otherwise. Ty Hadsall was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Chaparral always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Belle Plaine only posted an OBP of .414.

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Douglass and Trinity Academy, and Trinity Academy kept the tradition alive. The Bulldogs lost 13-3 to the Knights on Monday. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Chaparral's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Douglass, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8-1.

Chaparral took their win against Douglass in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 15-3 score. Do the Roadrunners have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
