Basketball Game Preview: Chinle Wildcats vs. Monument Valley Mustangs

The Chinle Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Monument Valley Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Chinle is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 12 games.

On Tuesday, Chinle didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Window Rock, but they still walked away with a 45-40 victory. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Fighting Scouts are ranked 104th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Monument Valley scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Ganado by a score of 70-67. The Mustangs were up 22-8 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Chinle's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Monument Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.

Chinle beat Monument Valley 52-41 in their previous meeting last Saturday. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chinle since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
