Softball Game Preview: Nimitz Vikings vs. Irving Tigers

The Nimitz Vikings are taking a road trip to face off against the Irving Tigers at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Nimitz has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Irving will arrive with three straight victories.

Nimitz came up short against Irving on Monday, falling 14-2.

For Irving's part, Shantia Haymer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those hits marked the first that Haymer allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Abigail Cardenas was incredible, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Alessandra Garcia, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Irving was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .344 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Irving's record now sits at 6-10-1. As for Nimitz, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Nimitz hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Irving struggles in that department as they've averaged .424. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
