Softball Recap: Lincoln Park Lions vs. Amundsen Vikings

Lincoln Park was the 4-3 winner over Amundsen when they last played one another back in May of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Lincoln Park Lions lost 9-3 to the Amundsen Vikings on Thursday. Lincoln Park has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Eleanor Funke made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and a triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Alvarez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Lincoln Park didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with eight strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Amundsen only tossed four.

On Amundsen's side, Maeve Oliver made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. Oliver was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Ashley Ellevog was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Devin Horrow, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Lincoln Park's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10-1. As for Amundsen, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 17-6.

Lincoln Park will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Payton College Prep at 4:30 p.m. As for Amundsen, they are on the road again on Friday to play Jones at 5:00 p.m. Both teams will come into the game having just posted big wins, so someone is set to suffer a big change in fortunes.
