Basketball Preview: Vista PEAK Prep Bison vs. Regis Groff Fusion

Vista PEAK Prep has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Regis Groff Fusion at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Vista PEAK Prep has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 333 points over their last four matches.

Last Friday, Vista PEAK Prep faced the Nighthawks in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Vista PEAK Prep fell to the Nighthawks 80-74. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Julian Carrizales, who scored 18 points. It was the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Kyree Polk, who scored 17 points.

Meanwhile, Regis Groff pushed their score all the way to 64 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 87-64 walloping at the hands of Thomas Jefferson. While losing is never fun, Regis Groff can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 276th, while the Spartans are ranked 77th).

Vista PEAK Prep's loss ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-4. As for Regis Groff, they dropped their record down to 4-13 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Everything came up roses for Vista PEAK Prep against the Fusion in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 83-24 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Vista PEAK Prep since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
