Baseball Recap: Honesdale Finds Home Field Redemption Against Lakeland

There's no place like home for Honesdale, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They walked away with an 11-8 victory over the Lakeland Chiefs on Friday. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Chiefs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Connor Tirney made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Honesdale is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Tirney was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nick Martin, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those hits marked the first that he got this season. Another player making a difference was Reese Dennis, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

The victory got Honesdale back to even at 3-3. As for Lakeland, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 3-3.

Looking ahead, Honesdale will take on Riverside at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches. As for Lakeland, they will host Mid Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
