Basketball Game Preview: Paxton Tigers vs. Mullen Broncos

The Paxton Tigers just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Mullen Broncos at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Paxton comes in on five and Mullen on four.

On Wednesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Paxton beat Sandhills/Thedford 45-39.

Paxton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jordan Clouse, who posted nine points and three steals. Clouse has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaleigh Hansen, who put up ten points and three steals.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Mullen against Arthur County on Wednesday as the team secured a 53-24 victory. The Broncos have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 22 points or more this season.

Mullen's win came from a few key players Paxton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jenna Donohoe, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayley Donohoe, who had 13 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Mullen's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.9 points over those games. As for Paxton, their record is now 14-8.

Paxton was able to grind out a solid victory over Mullen when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 34-22. The rematch might be a little tougher for Paxton since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
