Football Recap: Concordia Piles Up the Points Against St. Paul Lutheran

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Concordia had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed past the St. Paul Lutheran Saints to the tune of 70-7. The Fighting Orioles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by 39 points or more this season.

Concordia's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nephi Hon, who rushed for 92 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 147 yards and three TDs while completing 80% of his passes. That's the most rushing touchdowns Hon has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Carson Droege, who gained 194 total yards and three touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Concordia was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 345 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 189 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups.

Concordia's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Aksel Garcia, Brayden Frerking, and Aiden Frerking, who each picked up one sack apiece. Garcia was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making ten total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Concordia has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points over those games. As for St. Paul Lutheran, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Looking ahead, Concordia will square off against Northwest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Paul Lutheran does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
