Baseball Game Preview: Morgan Trojans vs. Green Canyon Wolves

The Morgan Trojans will venture away from home to face off against the Green Canyon Wolves at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Morgan has three straight wins, Green Canyon has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Morgan took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Uintah, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Trojans narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Utes 6-4.

Camron Talbot spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Morgan let Tyson Talbot and Kanyon Leonelli run wild. Talbot went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Leonelli got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Leonelli is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Luke Bauerle was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Bear River hit Green Canyon with a five-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wolves came up short against the Bears, falling 13-3.

Morgan pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Green Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-19.

Everything went Morgan's way against Green Canyon when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Morgan made off with a 12-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
