Football Recap: Stanton Comes Up Short

Stanton extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 1-7. They were dealt a 48-9 loss at the hands of the Merkel Badgers. The Buffaloes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Badgers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

As for Merkel, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.4 points over those games.

Merkel was led to victory by Easton Malone and Cj Guadarrama. Malone threw for 253 yards and four TDs on only 13 passes, while Guadarrama rushed for 92 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. What's more, Malone racked up 145 passer rating, the most he's had since back in August.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Stanton is set to face off against their familiar foe Coahoma at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Merkel will challenge rival Grape Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
