Basketball Recap: Delaney Gates Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Portsmouth West

The Warren Warriors beat the Portsmouth West Senators 54-41 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.

Warren's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from DeLaney Gates, who went 7-for-9 en route to 16 points. Thanks to that strong game, Gates now owns an excellent 53.1% shooting accuracy. Jaelynn Nichols also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Warren was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Portsmouth West lost, don't look at Macey Whisman. Despite the final result, she shot 60% from the field on her way to 21 points in addition to seven boards and three blocks. Maddox Lawless was another key player, putting up eight points.

Warren's record is now 3-1. As for Portsmouth West, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Coming up, Warren is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Marietta at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. This will be the Warriors' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
