Basketball Recap: Purnell Swett's Losing Streak Snapped at Six Games

There's no place like home for Purnell Swett, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They put the hurt on the Douglas Byrd Eagles with a sharp 57-31 win on Friday. That 26 point margin sets a new team best for the Rams this season.

Among those leading the charge was Jeremiah Barnes, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dakota Locklear, who posted two points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Purnell Swett smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Douglas Byrd lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Robeon Nowell-Smalls, who scored four points along with ten boards and three steals. Quntine Alexis was another key player, putting up six points.

With the victory, Purnell Swett broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-10. As for Douglas Byrd, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Purnell Swett has already played their next match (against Gray's Creek), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Douglas Byrd will square off against Jack Britt at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. Douglas Byrd is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.6 points per game this season.
