Softball Recap: Cary's Losing Streak Snapped at 22 Games

Cary can bid farewell to their 22-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Wednesday. They blew past the Sanderson Spartans 16-1. With that victory, the Imps brought their scoring average up to 7.5 runs per game.

Makenzie Watkins looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That earned run marked the first that she tossed this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Catherine Baker, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, eight RBI, and four runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 3.2 RBI per game. Daniella Velazquez also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Cary always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February of 2024.

Cary's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Sanderson, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cary will head out to square off against Apex at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sanderson, they will head out on the road to face off against Franklinton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Franklinton has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.5 runs per game on average), something Sanderson will no doubt try to take advantage of.
