Softball Recap: Vinton Comes Up Short

Vinton had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-18 to make it six. They lost 14-4 to the Merryville Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-5 back in February.

As for Merryville, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-13 record this season. Considering they have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Merryville's part, the team relied heavily on Shaylee Lott, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Lott has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Abigail Cornes, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

As of now, neither Vinton nor Merryville have any future games scheduled.
