Recap: Orange Park Raiders vs. Ponte Vedra Sharks
The Orange Park Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 65-49 to Ponte Vedra. Orange Park was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Ponte Vedra apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2022.
Orange Park's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Autumn Nesmith, who scored 16 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nesmith has scored all season. Piera Alexander was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five steals.
Ponte Vedra was led to victory by Taylor Perce and Maya Richards. Perce scored 14 points, while Richards scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Richards continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Charlie Peverley, who scored eight points.
Orange Park has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season. As for Ponte Vedra, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
Orange Park will be playing at home against Hawthorne at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hawthorne is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games. As for Ponte Vedra, they will square off against North Florida Educational Institute at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (North Florida Educational Institute is ranked 47th, while Ponte Vedra is ranked 59th).
