Baseball Recap: Bremen Comes Up Short

After flying high against Hillcrest on Tuesday, Bremen came back down to earth. The Braves fell 5-2 to the Shepard Astros on Saturday. The Braves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Astros apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Ashton Cardinal was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run. He is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as he's now launched at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Bremen now has a losing record of 11-12. As for Shepard, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-8-2.

Bremen and Shepard could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Braves will take on Oak Forest at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (348 vs. 144). Meanwhile, Shepard (ranked 320th) will meet Reavis (ranked 108th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
