Basketball Recap: Bayside Academy's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak at Home

Pensacola Catholic came into Saturday's contest looking for another win against Bayside Academy, but Misty Kate Smith wouldn't allow it. The Bayside Academy Admirals narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Pensacola Catholic Crusaders 39-37 thanks in part to Smith, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Bayside Academy's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Eliana Blossom, who posted eight points in addition to nine boards and four blocks. She is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played.

Pensacola Catholic's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Danielle Gulley, who put up eight points along with eight steals and six boards. Morgan Smith was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 16 rebounds.

Bayside Academy's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-10. As for Pensacola Catholic, they dropped their record down to 7-4 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bayside Academy will welcome UMS-Wright Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Pensacola Catholic, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Rocky Bayou Christian at 6:00 p.m. Rocky Bayou Christian will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Pensacola Catholic surely won't give up without a fight.
