Preview: Delbarton Green Wave vs. St. Joseph Regional Green Knights
Delbarton is 0-4 against St. Joseph Regional since September of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Delbarton Green Wave will be playing at home against the St. Joseph Regional Green Knights at 1:00 p.m. Delbarton will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Last Saturday, Delbarton faced DePaul Catholic in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Delbarton claimed a resounding 28-0 victory over DePaul Catholic at home. The result was nothing new for Delbarton, who have now won five contests by 21 points or more so far this season.
Delbarton relied on the efforts of Brock Dandridge, who rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries, and Ryan Trafford, who rushed for 99 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Trafford is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last four games he's played.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph Regional beat Seton Hall Prep 30-21 on Saturday. Given St. Joseph Regional's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked third, while Seton Hall Prep is ranked 25th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Joseph Regional can attribute much of their success to John Forster, who rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown, and also caught a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Terrance Sumter, who rushed for 110 yards.
Delbarton's victory was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 29.3 points per game. As for St. Joseph Regional, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
Delbarton and St. Joseph Regional were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, but Delbarton came up empty-handed after a 28-27 loss. Thankfully for Delbarton, Luke Tucci (who rushed for 194 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
