Preview: Lawrence North Wildcats vs. Westfield Shamrocks
Two dominant guards in Kya Hurt and Ellie Kelleher are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Lawrence North Wildcats and the Westfield Shamrocks will face off at 10:00 a.m. on December 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Lawrence North will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Last Saturday, Lawrence North faced Norwell in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Lawrence North sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 57-55 victory over Norwell. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Lawrence North got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Naja Winston out in front who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. That's the first time this season that Winston pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Hurt, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Westfield came up short against Fort Wayne Northrop on Saturday and fell 49-40.
Lawrence North's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Westfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-4.
