Basketball Game Preview: DeLaSalle Islanders vs. Mahtomedi Zephyrs

DeLaSalle has won five straight games at home, while Mahtomedi has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The DeLaSalle Islanders will host the Mahtomedi Zephyrs at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Friday, DeLaSalle was fully in charge, breezing past Fridley 78-38. The Islanders haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Mahtomedi against South St. Paul on Thursday as the squad secured a 62-29 victory. Given the Zephyrs' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Packers are ranked 255th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mahtomedi is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.5 points over those games. As for DeLaSalle, their win bumped their record up to 16-5.

DeLaSalle beat Mahtomedi 75-62 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Does DeLaSalle have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mahtomedi turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
