Baseball Game Preview: Smithsburg Leopards vs. Urbana Hawks

The Smithsburg Leopards will face off against the Urbana Hawks at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Smithsburg beats Urbana with seven runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Smithsburg came out on top against Martinsburg by a score of 7-2 on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Leopards.

Gavin Ramarge made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Ramarge was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaiah Burger, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Mythius Smith, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Urbana gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They put the hurt on Century with a sharp 9-3 victory.

Kiegan Rupinta looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Kayden Lipscomb was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Billy Swaney was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
