Basketball Recap: Cheylin Takes a Loss

If Cheylin was riding high fresh off their 58-28 takedown of Western Plains on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cheylin Cougars fell just short of the Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks by a score of 52-50 on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 64-49 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Wheatland-Grinnell was led to victory by Aliviah Ball and Natalie Bixenman. Ball dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Bixenman posted 12 points. Thanks to that strong game, Ball now owns an excellent 46.3% field goal percentage. Halle Zimmerman also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Cheylin's loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Wheatland-Grinnell, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-4.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Cougars face off against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cheylin is on a seven-game streak of home wins, Wallace County a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Wheatland-Grinnell, they will take on Quinter at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Quinter's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matches.
