Softball Recap: Avon Has No Trouble Against Mccutcheon

Avon won the last time they faced McCutcheon and things went their way on Thursday too. The Orioles blew past the Mavericks 12-2. That's two games straight that the Orioles have won by exactly ten runs.

Brinley Pope made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lylah DeArmond was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Yeary, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Avon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in eight consecutive matchups.

Avon's record is now 5-13. As for McCutcheon, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avon will host Center Grove at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for McCutcheon, they will take on Kankakee Valley in a tournament on Friday.
