Football Game Preview: Timpview Thunderbirds vs. Orem Tigers + How To Watch

The Timpview Thunderbirds are taking a road trip to face off against the Orem Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Timpview challenged Maple Mountain on Friday. The Thunderbirds were the clear victors by a 44-20 margin over the Golden Eagles.

Dexton Havea was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 91 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries. He got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 55 yards. Braxton Wilkerson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Timpview's run defense was locked in: Maple Mountain could only muster 1.5 yards per carry. While two picked up at least nine total tackles, Duncan Strong stood above the rest. He made nine total tackles (4.0 for loss) and snagged two interceptions. Timpview's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.07 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 5.93 on average over their last five games.

Timpview didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Strong and Wilkerson. Strong is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least six every time he's taken the field this season. Wilkerson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Orem took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 45-3 victory over Wasatch. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Tigers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Utah football rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Wasps are ranked 47th).

Orem's receiving core played a big role in the win, headlined by Kaue Akana and Max Stonebraker. Akana picked up 101 receiving yards and two scores while Stonebraker gained 77 total yards and two touchdowns. That's the most receiving yards Akana has posted since back in October of 2024.

The win got Timpview back to even at 3-3. As for Orem, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

Everything came up roses for Timpview against Orem in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 42-8 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Tigers' Feleti Iongi, who rushed for 92 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Thunderbirds to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
