Softball Recap: Lecanto Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Lecanto had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They never let the River Ridge Royal Knights get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory on Wednesday. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Royal Knights, too.

Not much got past Abigail Males, who gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks to keep River Ridge off the board. Males has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lecanto saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Coimbre, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. Kierstyn Swayze also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Lecanto pushed their record up to 2-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.4 runs. As for River Ridge, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers challenge the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for River Ridge, they will head out to face off against Anclote at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. River Ridge is facing Anclote at the right time seeing as Anclote is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
