Softball Game Preview: Texas Tigers vs. Melissa Cardinals

For the second straight game, Texas will face off against Melissa. The Tigers will venture away from home to face off against the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Melissa hit Texas with a six-run fourth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers lost 13-1 to the Cardinals. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Melissa's part, Eloisa Maes looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Maes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caigan Crabtree, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Gonzales, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Melissa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .583. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .348 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Melissa pushed their record up to 30-0 with the win, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 11.3 runs thus far. As for Texas, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-9-1.
