Softball Recap: Lower Lake Find Success

While Lower Lake's win against Fort Bragg wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Trojans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Timberwolves on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted since March 22nd.

Mariah Bal spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lower Lake saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kierstyn Lambert, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Mia Garcia, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Lower Lake hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Lower Lake is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Bragg, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
