Softball Recap: Cornwall Central Comes Up Short

Cornwall Central extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-3 in the process. They came up short against the Valley Central Vikings, falling 12-3. The Dragons were not able to make up for their loss to the Vikings from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Cornwall Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Allyson Fanning, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.

As for Valley Central, they pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 9.4 runs thus far.

On Valley Central's side, Emily Sharpe made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Sharpe was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Audrey Conklin, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eleanor O'Neill, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Cornwall Central has already played their next matchup, a 10-4 defeat against Wallkill on the 16th. As for Valley Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 11-5 loss against Middletown on the 14th.
