Basketball Recap: Canyon Springs Takes a Loss

If Canyon Springs was feeling good fresh off their 54-34 takedown of Mojave last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Canyon Springs Pioneers lost 70-44 to the Coronado Cougars on Tuesday. The Pioneers haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the loss, Canyon Springs still got an impressive performance from Ariyanah Custard, who went 7 of 16 on her way to 16 points and five steals. Custard is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Legardy, who posted seven points and seven rebounds.

Scarlet Lopez was nothing short of spectacular for Coronado: she had 11 points along with eight assists and six boards. The dominant performance gave Lopez a new career-high in assists. Jayliana Glothon was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Canyon Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Coronado, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.

Canyon Springs wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 54-18 victory against Cheyenne on the 11th. As for Coronado, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 43-25 win against Palo Verde on the 11th.
