Softball Recap: Prince Edward County Eagles vs. Cumberland Dukes
Prince Edward County had lost 12 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-12-1 to make it 13. They lost 14-3 to the Cumberland Dukes. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dukes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 back in April.
Aliyah Rachels was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Kayla Killebrew also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
As for Cumberland, their win ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-14. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
On Cumberland's side, K. Womack was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Womack has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cumberland got a massive performance out of S. Winslow, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those three hits gave Winslow a new career-high. Another player making a difference was K Dudley, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
As of now, neither Prince Edward County nor Cumberland have any future games scheduled.
