Softball Recap: Mohawk Wins Going Away Against Van Buren

Mohawk was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Van Buren on Tuesday. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Black Knights. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by eight runs or more this season.

Aubrey Gottfried made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Mallory Brickner was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trenna Johnson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Mohawk's victory bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Van Buren, their record is now 5-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mohawk will head out to challenge Lincolnview at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 1.3, the Lancers 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Van Buren, they will challenge Liberty-Benton at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Black Knights will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
