Basketball Game Preview: Canton Tigers vs. Leake Central Gators + Official Tickets

The Canton Tigers will face off against the Leake Central Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Canton has five straight victories, Leake Central has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Canton is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Humphreys County: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Tigers blew the Cowboys out of the water with a 55-26 final score. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 29 points or more this season.

Shamira Morton continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double with 13 points and 17 boards. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Dekendra Mitchell, who shot 50% from the field en route to 13 points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Leake Central took a blow against Madison-Ridgeland Academy on Tuesday, falling 76-49.

Canton's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Leake Central, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Canton beat Leake Central 50-39 in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gators turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
