Baseball Recap: Mather Drops Highest Score of Season Against Steinmetz College Prep

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mather). They never let the Steinmetz College Prep Silver Streaks get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Rangers considering their one-run performance the game before.

Jeriel Mejias made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Mather let David Goytia and Roy Beard run wild. Goytia got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Beard went 2-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. Mather is undefeated when Goytia posts two or more runs, but 2-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake McDonough, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Mather always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win got Mather back to even at 5-5. As for Steinmetz College Prep, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Mather will have a chance to go back-to-back against Steinmetz College Prep: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
