Softball Recap: Rockvale Beats Rhea County for Their Second Straight Victory

After only one run in their last matchup, Rockvale made sure to put some runs up on the board against Rhea County on Saturday. Rockvale never let Rhea County get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Considering Rockvale's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Atiera Stickler looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Lea Johnson and Katelyn Carpenter did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Carpenter went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was Johnson's first of the season. Fiona Joyce was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Rockvale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rhea County only posted an OBP of .077.

The victory made it two in a row for Rockvale and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Rhea County, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Rockvale didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-1 loss against Girls Prep on the 22nd. As for Rhea County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 7-6 defeat against Knoxville Catholic on the 22nd.
