Softball Recap: Yuma Catholic Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

Yuma Catholic barely beat ALA - West Foothills the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Shamrocks put the hurt on the Guardians with a sharp 9-3 win on Tuesday. Considering the Shamrocks have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Cherish Trujillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kodi Leigh, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Kassandra Reynoso, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Yuma Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as ALA - West Foothills struck out seven times.

Yuma Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for ALA - West Foothills, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

Coming up, Yuma Catholic will take on Kingman at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for ALA - West Foothills, they will square off against Parker at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Guardians are facing the Broncs at the right time seeing as the Broncs are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
