Basketball Recap: Essex Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Aryeon Robinson and Makiryn Williams

Essex lost against Caroline two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Essex Trojans took a hard 50-36 fall against the Caroline Cavaliers. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Essex's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Makiryn Williams, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Aryeon Robinson, who posted 18 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Williams a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Kenedi Campbell, who had two points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Essex smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Essex's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Caroline, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Essex will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Jamestown at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Essex is facing Jamestown at the right time seeing as Jamestown is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Caroline will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against The Covenant at 12:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
