Basketball Recap: Golden Gate Comes Up Short

After soaring to 66 points the game before, Golden Gate was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They had to suffer through a 52-23 loss at the hands of the Loyola Academy Ramblers. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 470th in Florida, while the Ramblers are ranked 46th in Illinois).

When it comes to explaining why Golden Gate lost, don't look at Sam Powell. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 13 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. That was a full 65.2% of Golden Gate's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Golden Gate's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Loyola Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

Golden Gate didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 73-69 win against Ferguson on the 28th. As for Loyola Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 53-41 victory against St. Brendan on the 28th.
