Baseball Game Preview: Goshen Central Gladiators vs. Cornwall Central Dragons

Goshen Central hasn't had much luck against Cornwall Central recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Gladiators will be playing in front of their home fans against the Dragons at 4:15 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Goshen Central's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Monticello as they made off with an 8-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Gladiators in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won nine in a row.

Goshen Central let Avery Farrell and F Mitterbauer run wild. Farrell went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Mitterbauer got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two RBI gave Farrell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Vaccaro, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Goshen Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monticello only posted an OBP of .333.

Meanwhile, Cornwall Central entered their tilt with Port Jervis on Monday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Raiders 14-4. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.

Cornwall Central's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Goshen Central, their win bumped their record up to 9-5-1.

Goshen Central skirted past Cornwall Central 12-10 when the teams last played back in April. Do the Gladiators have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dragons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
